The Ionian Islands are greener and wetter than the Cyclades, with turquoise water, cliffs, olive groves, beaches and a softer western atmosphere.

Zakynthos is famous for Navagio, Kefalonia for mountains and caves, Lefkada for white cliffs and beaches, and Corfu for green hills and coves.

The islands show Venetian and western Mediterranean influences. Corfu has a strong old town, while the others are more relaxed and beach-oriented.

Main islands are reached by flights or ferries. A car is useful because the best beaches and villages are spread out.
