General information
The Dodecanese and Northern Aegean islands form a varied island world close to the Turkish coast. Rhodes and Kos are accessible and popular, while Patmos, Samos, Chios and Lesbos feel more distinct.
Trips and nature
The islands range from dry and sunny to greener and more mountainous. The season is long and the sea is warm from late spring into autumn.
Food and atmosphere
Rhodes has a strong medieval old town, Patmos a spiritual character, Chios mastic villages and Lesbos literary and musical traditions.
Transport and stay
Distances are longer than in the Cyclades, so flights and ferries need planning. Each island is best explored with a car or scooter.
