The Eiffel Tower is one of those places you feel you already know. You have seen it in films, posters, postcards and probably in half the photos ever taken in Paris. But standing beneath the iron structure still feels different.
Built for the 1889 World’s Fair, the tower was originally meant to be temporary. It stayed, and today it is one of the most recognisable landmarks in the world. Its charm is not only in its height, but in how differently it appears from each angle: formal from Trocadéro, technical from underneath, and almost light from the Champ de Mars.
Why visit
The main reason to go up is the view. From the second floor, Paris becomes easy to read: the Seine, Les Invalides, Montmartre, La Défense and the long rhythm of the boulevards. The summit costs more and takes longer, but on a clear day it gives the strongest wow effect.
Practical tip
Book through the official website if you want a specific time. The stairs to the second floor are the cheapest option, while the lift is easier. Public transport is much better than driving.
Summary
The Eiffel Tower is famous, touristy and often crowded. And yet it works. Some classics are classics for a reason.
