General information
Grandvalira, Canillo, Encamp and Eastern Andorra are the country’s main winter sports and high-mountain area, with ski resorts, valleys, cable cars and roads towards France.
Trips and nature
The east is more alpine and open than the central valley. In winter, skiing dominates; in summer, hiking, lakes, pastures and high viewpoints take over.
Food and atmosphere
Canillo, Encamp and Meritxell add churches, pilgrimage heritage and Pyrenean village culture. Food is mountain-style: meats, cheeses, sausages, soups, mushrooms and hearty dishes.
Transport and stay
The area is reached by road or bus from the central valley. In winter, road conditions and equipment matter. It suits skiing, snowboarding, hiking and mountain stays.
