The French Alps, Lyon and the Jura combine France’s most famous mountain scenery with one of its great food cities, alpine lakes, ski resorts, glaciers, valleys and quieter Jura landscapes.

The Alps bring high peaks, glaciers, lakes, forests, pastures and ski areas, while the Jura offers gentler mountains, lakes, waterfalls and forests.

Lyon is a major gastronomic and historical centre, while alpine towns, mountain villages, cheese traditions and borderland culture shape the wider region.

Transport and stay

Lyon is a strong rail and air hub. Trains reach many cities, but a car helps for mountain villages, lakes, passes and smaller Jura areas.
