General information
Ticino and Southern Switzerland are where Swiss precision meets Italian atmosphere. The region has palms, lakes, stone villages, valleys, espresso, piazzas and Italian-speaking culture.
Trips and nature
Lake Lugano and Lake Maggiore bring promenades and mild climate, while Verzasca and Maggia valleys offer turquoise water, stone bridges, gorges and mountain villages.
Food and atmosphere
Bellinzona’s castles are the main historical highlight. Lugano feels urban and lakeside, Locarno sunny and festival-oriented, Ascona elegant and relaxed. Food includes polenta, risotto, pasta, salumi, merlot, gelato and grotto restaurants.
Transport and stay
Ticino is easy by train through the Gotthard route and also by car. Lugano, Locarno and Bellinzona are well connected; a car helps for valleys and smaller villages.
