General information
South Wales, Cardiff and Pembrokeshire form the most accessible and varied part of Wales. Cardiff offers a castle, bay, stadiums, museums and youthful energy, while the surroundings add coal heritage, mountains and coast.
Trips and nature
The region is surprisingly diverse: Bannau Brycheiniog, waterfalls, Gower beaches and the Pembrokeshire Coast. Summer is best for the coast, spring and autumn for walking.
Food and atmosphere
South Wales is shaped by castles, rugby, coal mining and modern Welsh identity. Cardiff, Big Pit, St Davids and the coastal towns all add different layers. Food includes Welsh cakes, cawl, lamb, cheeses, seafood, beer and cider.
Transport and stay
Cardiff is well connected by train from London and Bristol. A car is useful for Pembrokeshire, Gower, Brecon Beacons and smaller coastal places.
