General information
Reykjavík, South-West Iceland and the Golden Circle are the classic starting point for Iceland. The region combines the capital, geothermal areas, lava fields, waterfalls, national history and short but impressive trips from the city.
Trips and nature
The landscape is volcanic, open and geothermally active. Þingvellir, Geysir, Gullfoss, Reykjanes and the Blue Lagoon area show Iceland in a compact and accessible form.
Food and atmosphere
Reykjavík is the cultural centre of Iceland, with museums, music, cafés, harbour life and a small-capital feel. Þingvellir is deeply linked with Icelandic history and identity.
Transport and stay
Keflavík airport is the main gateway. Reykjavík is easy without a car, but a car or organised tours are useful for the Golden Circle and Reykjanes.
