General information
Höga Kusten, Umeå and the Bothnian Coast show a quieter and more open side of northern Sweden. The region combines sea, forest, islands, university life, coastal towns and long summer light.
Trips and nature
The High Coast is the natural highlight, with steep shores, islands, forests and views over the Gulf of Bothnia. The coast is calmer than western Sweden and feels spacious, northern and slightly understated.
Food and atmosphere
Umeå is a young university city with culture, cafés and a creative feel, while the coast adds fishing villages, wooden architecture and maritime traditions. Food includes fish, berries, mushrooms, flatbread, coffee and simple northern Swedish cooking.
Transport and stay
Umeå has an airport and rail connections. A car is useful for the High Coast, small coastal towns, islands and nature areas along the Bothnian shore.
