General information
Berlin, Brandenburg and Potsdam form Germany’s most distinctive capital region. Berlin is political, creative, chaotic and historically intense, while Brandenburg adds lakes, forests, palaces and a much slower rhythm around the city.
Trips and nature
The region is flatter and greener than many expect, with lakes, canals, forests, parks and river landscapes. Brandenburg is excellent for cycling, swimming, paddling and slow countryside escapes.
Food and atmosphere
Berlin carries Prussian, imperial, Weimar, Nazi, Cold War and reunification layers almost street by street. Potsdam adds Sanssouci, palaces and elegant royal landscapes.
Transport and stay
Berlin has major rail links, airports and extensive public transport. A car is unnecessary in Berlin but useful for lakes, villages and wider Brandenburg.
