General information
Limburg and Maastricht feel different from the flat western Netherlands: hillier, more Catholic, more Burgundian and strongly shaped by nearby Belgium and Germany.
Trips and nature
This is one of the few hilly Dutch regions, with river valleys, limestone landscapes, caves, vineyards and gentle walking routes.
Food and atmosphere
Maastricht is one of the country’s most atmospheric cities, with Roman, medieval, religious and European layers. Food and café life are especially important.
Transport and stay
Maastricht is reachable by train, though distances from Amsterdam are longer. The region is excellent for slow travel, cycling, walking and cross-border trips.
