General information

Madrid and Central Spain form the country’s political, cultural and transport heart, combining a major capital, royal history, world-class museums, tapas culture and easy day trips.

Trips and nature

The region is shaped by high plains, dry light, rivers, parks and the mountains north of Madrid. Sierra de Guadarrama offers the main natural escape.

Food and atmosphere

Madrid’s museums, royal sites and neighbourhood life are the core, while Toledo, Segovia, Ávila and El Escorial create one of Spain’s richest day-trip rings.

Transport and stay

Madrid has Spain’s biggest transport hub, with excellent rail and metro connections. A car is unnecessary in the city but useful for rural areas and mountain villages.
