General information
Rila and Pirin are Bulgaria’s strongest mountain region, combining high peaks, glacial lakes, monasteries, hiking, skiing and traditional mountain towns.
Trips and nature
Rila has the famous Seven Rila Lakes and Bulgaria’s highest peak, Musala. Pirin is sharper and wilder, with alpine ridges, forests and lakes.
Food and atmosphere
Rila Monastery is one of Bulgaria’s key cultural sites. Bansko, mountain villages and local food traditions add strong regional identity.
Transport and stay
A car or organised transport is useful for monasteries, trailheads and ski resorts. Mountain weather can change quickly.
