General information

The Aegean Coast is a region of ancient cities, olive groves, seaside resorts, wine, ferries and a more relaxed atmosphere. Izmir is lively and modern, Ephesus is a major archaeological site and Bodrum mixes sea, nightlife and history.

Trips and nature

The landscape is dry, sunny and coastal, with bays, peninsulas and islands within sight. The interior adds vineyards, olives and gentle hills. May, June, September and October are the best months.

Food and atmosphere

Western Turkey is rich in antiquity. Ephesus, Pergamon and other sites recall the Greek and Roman past, while Izmir and Bodrum have a modern seaside rhythm. Food is lighter and Aegean: olive oil, vegetable meze, fish, seafood, herbs, wine and sweets.

Transport and stay

Izmir, Bodrum and Dalaman have airports. A car helps for archaeological sites, villages and peninsulas, while buses connect larger resorts. The area suits 7 to 12 days of beaches, history, food and summer road trips.
