General information
Alsace, Champagne and Burgundy form one of France’s richest cultural and wine regions, combining borderland towns, cathedrals, vineyards, gastronomy and some of the country’s most atmospheric smaller cities.
Trips and nature
The region ranges from the Vosges and Alsatian vineyards to Champagne’s rolling hills and Burgundy’s wine slopes, rivers and canals. It is ideal for slow scenic travel rather than dramatic wilderness.
Food and atmosphere
Strasbourg, Colmar, Reims, Dijon, Beaune and many wine villages offer Gothic cathedrals, half-timbered streets, cellar culture, medieval heritage and Franco-German layers.
Transport and stay
Major cities are well connected by train, especially from Paris. A car is useful for wine villages, vineyard roads, canals and smaller rural areas.
