General information
Helsinki, Uusimaa and Southern Finland are the most natural entry point to the country. Helsinki is compact, maritime, design-oriented and calm, with islands, saunas, museums, cafés and good public transport.
Trips and nature
The region is shaped by the Gulf of Finland, rocky shores, islands, forests and parks. Suomenlinna and the Helsinki archipelago are easy ways to experience the sea close to the city.
Food and atmosphere
Helsinki combines Nordic modernism, Finnish design, Russian imperial traces and contemporary culture. Porvoo adds wooden houses and a small-town historic atmosphere. Food includes salmon, rye bread, berries, cinnamon buns, coffee and modern Finnish cuisine.
Transport and stay
Helsinki has the main airport, trains, trams, metro, ferries and good cycling routes. A car is not needed in the city, but helps for coastal villages and nature trips.
