General information
The Slovak Karst, Tokaj and South-Eastern Slovakia are quieter and more offbeat, combining caves, wine, borderland towns, limestone landscapes and Hungarian cultural influences.
Trips and nature
The Slovak Karst is known for caves, limestone plateaus, gorges and dry landscapes. Tokaj adds vineyards and a warmer southern atmosphere.
Food and atmosphere
Wine villages, castles, mining towns, Hungarian-speaking areas and rural traditions give the region a distinctive borderland identity.
Transport and stay
A car is very useful here, as sights are spread out and public transport is limited outside main towns.
