General information
Bucharest and Wallachia are Romania’s main urban and political gateway, combining a large capital, old neighbourhoods, grand boulevards, monasteries, plains and day trips towards the Carpathians.
Trips and nature
The region is mostly low and open, shaped by plains, rivers, parks and lakes. The northern edge rises towards the foothills and mountain routes.
Food and atmosphere
Bucharest mixes Ottoman, French-inspired, royal, communist and modern layers. Wallachian monasteries, courts and towns add older regional history.
Transport and stay
Bucharest has the main airport, rail hub and metro. A car is not ideal in the city but useful for monasteries, small towns and countryside trips.
