Northern Bulgaria and the Danube are less visited than the coast or mountains, but they offer river towns, old capitals, monasteries, fortresses and a slower cross-border atmosphere.
Trips and nature
The Danube shapes the north with broad river views, wetlands, cliffs and agricultural plains. Inland areas become hillier around Veliko Tarnovo.
