General information
Southern Norway, Telemark and Sørlandet are a gentler and more summery side of Norway, with white wooden towns, islands, beaches, lakes, canals and family-friendly coastal life.
Trips and nature
The region has a milder coastal landscape than the fjord west and Arctic north. Sørlandet is good for summer seaside holidays, while Telemark adds lakes, forests, canals and mountain edges.
Food and atmosphere
The region is shaped by maritime towns, wooden architecture, inland traditions and holiday culture. Food includes seafood, waffles, berries, lamb, farm products and simple summer dishes.
Transport and stay
Kristiansand is a key gateway with ferry and rail links. A car is useful for coastal towns, Telemark, lakes and small islands.
