General information

Snæfellsnes and West Iceland are often described as Iceland in miniature: volcanoes, lava, beaches, small harbours, mountains, glaciers and hot springs within manageable distances.

Trips and nature

Snæfellsjökull, Kirkjufell, lava fields, sea cliffs, black and golden beaches and mountain roads make the peninsula very scenic.

Food and atmosphere

Fishing villages, saga landscapes and small coastal communities give the area a quieter but culturally rooted feeling.

Transport and stay

A car is the best way to explore the peninsula. It works well as a 2 to 3 day trip from Reykjavík or as part of a larger ring-road journey.
