Bike Republic Sölden: an Alpine republic of trails above the Ötztal

Sölden is more than a bike park: 42+ km of shaped lines, 30+ km of single trails, 5 bike lifts, pump tracks, rentals and long descents from Giggijoch and Gaislachkogl.

Sölden has built a small republic around bikes and treats the idea with playful seriousness. Instead of a simple “take the lift and ride down” setup, the Ötztal has passports, citizenship, trail visas and, more importantly, a dense network of lines above the valley. The first impression is Alpine in scale: gondolas climb toward Giggijoch and Gaislachkogl while flow lines, natural trails and long valley runs spread below.

Official Sölden figures list 42+ km of shaped lines, 30+ km of single trails, 5 bike lifts and more than 310 km of MTB routes. That matters because Bike Republic is not a downhill park for one narrow rider type. Beginners can stay on smoother blue lines and pump tracks, advanced riders can work on berms and jumps, and enduro riders will find roots, rocks and sections that demand reading the terrain early.

Sölden’s strength is vertical and linking trails together. The long Rotkogl combination via Ollweite, Ohn and Broate is listed at around 12.5 km and 1,300 m of descent, which is no longer just a fun lap but a proper workout for hands and brakes. Fernar Trail goes even more alpine and is the kind of ride where weather, fatigue and technique add up quickly.

The best day here does not start by chasing the hardest line. Ride something calmer first, check open lifts and build the day around energy. Sölden rewards riders who want flow, natural trail and a big Alpine feeling, not just numbers on a map.
